COVID-19 Updates

In these ever-changing times with the evolving situation around the world in relation to COVID-19, we’re daily thinking through how we respond as a church. Check this page for updates as we navigate this season.

Hi Church Family,

Great news! Auckland is now in the orange traffic light setting. This means that we're able to have one service at 10AM with no capacity limits.

Church online is still currently available at 10AM.

Looking forward to seeing you.

Pastors Andrew, Hangyul, Mark.

Hi Church Family,

We're excited to be able to meet in person again soon.

Please watch below for this exciting update from Jonathan Watts on behalf of the Elders.

More information to come.

12PM, 25 JANUARY 2022

Hi Church Family,

Our plans and preparation were progressing in the hope that in one form or another, our whole church family, vaccinated and unvaccinated could worship in-person.

Disappointingly, returning to the Red Light phase has temporarily put our hopes on hold.

For now, we encourage everyone to gather with others to watch the Sunday Service and to worship together.

Our ‘Church at Ours’ initiative continues to operate, and more hosts will be opening their homes for gatherings soon. If you haven’t already, you can register HERE.

Pastors Andrew, Hangyul, Mark.

2PM, 02 DECEMBER 2021

Dear church family,

We miss you sorely.

We miss greeting you at the door, we miss giving you handshakes and hugs and high-fives. We miss hearing you sing, we miss sitting under the teaching of God’s word together in one room. We miss hearing the clinks of communion cups being rounded up, we miss seeing your faces out in the foyer.

We simply cannot wait to worship with you again.

In the meantime, if there’s any way we can minister to you, please get in touch with us here.

Thank you for your support and prayers. Many of you have reached out to tell us how much you have been praying for us, and we have definitely needed it. Thank you for your patience - we recognize our communication has been sparse, but we have endeavored to make the wisest decisions possible, which meant that most of our answers to your questions during the last few weeks have simply been “it’s currently under discussion” - in this season of uncertainty and anxiety, we’re aware of how unsatisfying and stressful such an answer can be… so again, thank you for your patience.

As a leadership group we have been praying, considering, discussing, watching, and listening to a range of contacts and resources to navigate a way forward for us to start our services and ministries again. Throughout this process, our decisions have been guided by three main premises;

Love one another. We want unity despite location. We want to ask ourselves ‘what does love require of me?’ What does it mean for us to put others and their welfare ahead of ourselves? What does setting aside my preferences and rights look like during this time? (Phil 2:3, Eph 4:3-6, John 15:12)

Safety of our people. How can we care for the most vulnerable, the elderly, the children, the immunocompromised during a health crisis? (Phil 2:4)

Submission to governing authorities. How can we operate in a way that shows submission to God and to the governing authorities He has placed? How can we be a good witness during this time? (Rom 13:1-2, Rom 2:24, 1 Peter 2:13)

As of Friday, we enter the COVID-19 Protection Framework (Traffic light system), which will grant us more (but still limited) freedoms.

As much as we would like to take full advantage of these freedoms, as a leadership we believe there are still many things that need to be thought and prayed through before coming to a conclusive decision. It has occurred to us every step of the way that when something seems like a simple decision… it comes with five more ramifications or follow up questions. Black and white suddenly turns out to be grey.

Indeed, we cannot go on forever without making definitive decisions, so they will come in due time. But for the time being, at our most recent elders’ meeting - with all things considered - it seemed good to us and the Holy Spirit that we delay our in-person gatherings until at least February 13th, 2022. We want to make the wisest, and most Scripturally-consistent decision possible.

Not only does this allow us more time to think theologically and discuss the issue of Vaccine Passports, but this also means that;

🟢 We can observe and learn from how the Traffic Light system plays out.
🟢 We are afforded more time to have safety/hygiene/ventilation protocols to ensure we can open in the safest way possible.
🟢 The vaccination rates will be even higher, providing a safer environment for everyone.

This also comes at a time (summer holidays) when church staff and volunteers will be unavailable to launch a big re-gathering. We are hesitant after such a tough year, to potentially take away much needed time off from our staff. They have been working hard in the background to ensure that our congregation has been looked after. Delaying our in-person gathering until February means our staff are able to take some much-deserved time off for Christmas. The mental well-being of our team is not something we want to overlook.

We understand how desperate you are to get back together. We feel it too. In the meantime, we are working on a church-wide initiative that will allow us to gather together on Sundays in people’s homes - to watch the service, worship, and fellowship together. More on this soon.

It’s not the same as a large gathering, which is sad. But we encourage you to shift our perspective from “unable to meet for the time being” to “God has presented us with an opportunity to pivot and carry on the mission of the church (to make disciples) in creative and innovative ways.”

We are reminded of the Acts of the Apostles and the early church. They had all sorts of ‘restrictions’ come their way - and as tough as they were, they did not allow their mission as ambassadors of Jesus Christ to be thwarted. Ten years from now, as we look back on this strange season in the life of our church, may it be said that we did not let restrictions prevent us from living as followers of Jesus!

Ultimately we want you to convey to you a message of hope. Remember God is not surprised by anything. He is on the throne, He is in control, and we are trusting Him to guide us to make the best God-magnifying and church-edifying decision possible.

We will do our best to keep you informed and updated. The best forum for this is our weekly email. If you haven’t yet, you can sign up for it HERE

In the meantime, we are looking forward to gathering on Sundays in homes. Keep an eye out for this initiative. We love you church. We resonate with the Apostle Paul, when he wrote to the Philippian church; "For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus."

Grace and peace to you.

The government has announced that Auckland is at alert level 3 until midnight, Wednesday 17 February. As a result, Northcross is closed to all activities - staff will be working from home, and all in-person activities will be suspended until we receive further guidance from the government.

8:45PM, 07 October 2020

From Sunday 11th October we’ll be gathering again in-person, for both services at 10AM & 5:30PM. We can’t wait to worship together again, as the body of Christ at Northcross!

12PM, 12 August 2020

Kia ora church whānau,

As you’ve probably already heard, because of the new surge of COVID-19 cases, Auckland has moved to alert level 3. What this means for us at Northcross as of now is that:

  • This Sunday, our services will be online at 10AM & 5:30PM via our website. We will not be meeting in-person on Sunday.
  • All weekly ministries & use of the church building are on hold
  • We encourage all life groups to meet online for the time being
  • Staying connected is always important, especially now, so remember to check-in on loved ones who might be living alone, or need extra assistance

While we’re caring for each other during this time, we as a team are here to care for you, our church whānau, through supporting you in prayer. For those who may be struggling with depression or anxiety, job losses, loneliness or isolation, or have other physical needs such as grocery shopping, obtaining masks etc. we are also here for you.

Head over to the care section of the website to get in touch, or email the team at care@northcross.org.nz

May we continue to be a family of strong faith in a good and mighty God – trusting that even though some of us have been taken by surprise, He is always in control.

Kia kaha and stay safe.
Pastors Andrew, Hangyul, and Mark

10AM, 28 MAY 2020

Hi church family,

With the Government’s update regarding church gatherings, here is a quick update as to how this affects us:

- Our Sunday services will remain online for the foreseeable future.
- In the coming days, some ministries will be starting up again. Please contact the church office (church@northcross.org.nz) if you have any questions.

Pastors Andrew, Hangyul, and Mark.

10AM, 12 MAY 2020

Church at Level-2: from now until the 2nd of June.

Alert Level-2 allows for gatherings of up to ten people. We have been asked to be “incredibly careful” in “the new normal”. We have been encouraged to “keep it small, keep your distance, and be kind”

Consequently, we have prayerfully produced the following:

Services
We will continue with our online services (10AM, 5:30PM, Weds 7PM Youth).

Use of the Church Building
The building will be open to Northcross Church staff and others who need to access the building (e.g. cleaners, people making pastoral care donations…). Anyone else wanting access to the premises is asked to make an appointment.

Church Activities
During Level-2, church ministries and affiliated activities that use the church building will continue to be on hold. Some life groups may want to start meeting again in homes – please discuss this as a group and abide by the appropriate health and safety guidelines.

Our intention is to reassess everything on Tuesday 2nd of June, and give updates via our website, social media channels, and our Thursday newsletter.

Pastors Andrew, Hangyul, Mark.

4PM, 23 MARCH 2020

Hello everyone,

Not that this has ever been a problem for us, but the latest update from our Prime Minister can serve as a timely reminder for us that as Christians, we need to comply with the governing authorities and support our leaders in prayer. Remember in times like these that our restrictions around gathering is based on precaution, not persecution.

So we are locking down but not locking out - we're keeping in touch via online channels, so please continue to check social media, our website, and your emails for more updates.

Pastors Andrew, Hangyul, Mark.

2PM, 21 MARCH 2020

Hey everyone!

Due to the situation surrounding COVID-19, we won’t be gathering for a while, but it doesn’t mean we won’t be meeting! Our church services will continue online. There’ll be music worship, a sermon from Pastor Andrew, and even something for the kids.

It’s easy as one two three:

1. At 10AM or 5:30PM, head on over to www.northcross.org.nz
2. Click “CHURCH ONLINE”
3. Worship!

The entire service will be made available for access after 5:30PM.

More information and plans around how we will move forward as a church will be announced as decisions are made, so please continue to check social media, our website, and your emails.

Pastors Andrew, Hangyul, Mark.

5PM, 19 MARCH 2020

The disappointing news:

Following the government ban on indoor gatherings of more than 100 people, Northcross services have been temporarily suspended.

We won’t be gathering as Northcross Church this Sunday (morning or evening). The Wednesday evening service for young people has also been put on pause.

We know this is disappointing, but it is the right and responsible thing to do.

The good news:

We are going to put in a great deal of effort over the next couple of days to have a worship service available for you online. We will be filming Saturday for Sunday.

We may not be able to gather as a church, but we can still meet on Sunday.

We will be sending out more comprehensive and detailed updates in the coming days via emails, social media and our website. This will include information on small home gatherings and online content.

Blessings

Pastors Andrew, Hangyul, Mark.
